Name the Dress Form CONTEST/GIVEAWAY!!!

CLOSED FOR ENTRIES

Stay tuned to vote for your favorite name from Anisa's choices.

Do you remember this cute Dress Form from our 1 Craft 3 Ways post? Well, I got her at a Garage Sale for $5!!! My most exciting purchase of the summer. I love her. She is vintage... I love vintage stuff. I love the neutral brown. I love her. But, here's the thing.... she needs a name! and I need your help naming her. So, I'm going to have a contest. Read carefully...... Name the Dress Form Contest: Here's how it's going to work. You will need to leave a COMMENT with a Unique Name for her. (by unique, I mean that you need to read through the comments to make sure someone hasn't already used your name.) On Friday, Sept. 11th at 10:00 p.m. I will read through all of the comments and pick my 5 favorite names. I will then put those names up on the side bar with a poll so that our readers can vote for their favorite name. The poll will be on our site for about a week. When the poll closes, we'll see what name is everyone's favorite and my dress form will officially be named. The person that chose the name for the dress form, will win this ApROn.... I got the fabric for this apron at Pine Needles in Gardner Village. I love their fabric!!! I can't wait to see the names that everyone comes up with!!! -Anisa

Mathilda... the possibilities for endearing little nicknames are endless (well maybe not endless, but Mattie, Tilly, Tildie, etc...) that's the kind of stuff I go in for.

Dress forms have been around since the time of the pharaoh and have kept peasants and royals busy designing or mimicking the latest ‘envogue’ designs for ages. I have considered Egyptian names, and names like Florence, and Marie Antoinette all of whom used dress forms, but couldn’t get them to fit. I also considered naming her Threads or Silk, but those both seem to trendy, but Poly as in polyester. That is a name that has staying power. Although most of us would admit to having a love/hate relationship with polyester, this little synthetic fiber really is amazing. Since 1941 this tacky, heavy duty fabric has been repelling stains, keeping us iron free and covering everything from kid’s knees to floors. Did you know that polyester can be worn for 68 days straight without needing to be ironed?
So with that verbose bit of commentary added to your lives, I think that you should lovingly call your vintage dress form “Poly”.
Happy Name Hunting.

Okay, I've got it!
Minnie.
Full name: Miss Minnie Brown
It's a good vintage name. And we could call her "Skinny Minnie" because no matter what she wears, she always looks...skinny.

Although I would LOVE to see her named after me...KRISTEN, I decided it wouldn't win any votes :(

I think finding this awesome dress form is like finding a DIAMOND in the rough at garage sale and for only $5 -you've gotta be kidding me!!! So Diamond was lame so I thought of the perfect name:

JEWEL

An old fashion name with a little meaning (at least to me) My great grandmother was the one who taught me how to sew (amongst many other things.) So, 'Beulah Mae' after a great seamstress. :)

Lola...she's definetely a Lola!!

What a great garage sale find for $5!
Hmmm, I think she looks like a Zola Mae. That's a good vintage name, shhh, I stole it from an aunt!

Twyla, because it sounds like Twiddle and it meaning comes from twill, a kind of cloth...

I think you should name her "Sweet Charlotte" or "Sweet Charlie" for her nickname! It's a old fashioned classy name but than again Charlie is spunky and fun! It's completely versatile and unique.

Bree Biesinger Despain said...

I like Bonnie or Doris (as in Doris Day) because they have a vintage flair to them.

Also, you could name her Twiddle after the blog.

BTW, I LOVE that apron!

What about "Brown Sugar". Is that appropriate? I think she is so cute and sassy! I love your blog, so many awesome ideas!

She makes me think of Melba (as in toast?? :D) Maybe Melba Mae.

When I saw her, I immediately thought of Fannie May.

I think the name Bertha fits her nicely.

I think of the victorian era when everyone had such wonderful shapes (even if it was because of a corset). So, my vote is "Victoria"

Lucy. You can call her Luc, Lou Lou, or just Lucy. I love calling my daughter this nickname (her name is Lindsey). I never thought I liked the name Lucy until I called her it and I fell in love with it...and you will too ;)

Sarah said...

Thecla. It is a real name and most unusual.

Margaret aka: Fact Woman said...

She needs to be named Coco after Coco Chanel one of the biggest fashion designers of the 1950's and beyond.

I asked both of my girls to help me and we had a divided family! I said "Ruby" and Abbey agreed but Kylie wanted "Dotty" instead. We are probably cheating but I had to give you both!

Lucy or Ethyl

Woosh, almost missed out. I thought of the name Nellie Needle. You can call her NaNeddie. It's Nellie Needle put into one! Well, if anything I think it's unique. Have fun picking through your long list of names.

Ooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrr, "Vintage Veronica." Veronica was my Great Grandmother's name on my mom's side. You can call her Veronie for short. If you don't take the name...IF i ever have children and have a girl I'm going to name her that. Of course, without the vintage part. ;) Is it okay that I left two or am I disqualified?
